POLICE have conducted a pre-dawn raid on the Outlaws motorcycle gang clubhouse in Glenorchy.
Officers with a warrant to search for drugs and firearms turned up at the building at 4.30am this morning.
Detective Inspector Jason Elmer said the clubhouse was highly fortified and the police armoured vehicle known as the Bearcat was used to smash their way in.
“We are still searching the premises but a small quantity of cannabis and ice has been located so far,” he said.
“We make no apology for the damage caused.
“The premises is occupied by members of a criminal organisation who have fortified the premises to frustrate police entry.
“The damage caused was as a result of that fortification.”
Detective Inspector Elmer said that Tasmania Police was committed to disrupting the activities of criminal organisations.
“We will do what is necessary to hold these criminals to account and will continue to closely monitor their activities and movements,” he said.
“The Tasmanian community does not want these criminal gangs here.”
