A man arrested along with a woman Thursday after a high speed motorcycle chase through three Central Texas counties is one of the dozens of bikers indicted in the deadly Twin Peaks shootout.
Aaron Baker Carpenter, 35, of Gatesville and his passenger, Ashley Annette Danlyn Beeson, 27, of Nolanville, were arrested just west of Goldthwaite when the motorcycle they were riding developed mechanical trouble and came to a stop, Department of Public Safety Sgt. Dave Roberts said.
Carpenter was indicted on Nov. 10, 2015 for engaging in organized criminal activity in connection with the shootout between rival biker gangs and law enforcement officers on May 17, 2015 at Waco’s Twin Peaks restaurant that left nine bikers dead and 20 more injured.
At the time of the shootout, he was president of the Coyrell County chapter of the Cossacks motorcycle gang, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Gatesville police initiated the chase at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday after an officer attempted to stop two motorcycles inside the city limits.
One of the riders stopped, but the other, with a passenger on board, sped away. Gatesville police, joined by DPS troopers, chased the fleeing motorcycle into Hamilton County, then into Mills County on U.S. Highway 84.
The rider finally stopped the motorcycle about 3 miles west of Goldthwaite. Roberts said the bike developed a mechanical problem that forced the driver to pull over into a roadside ditch.
Roberts said the driver also had a handgun. Carpenter was booked into the Coryell County Jail where he faced charges of evading arrest using a vehicle and unlawfully carrying a weapon, Roberts said. Beeson was placed in the Coryell County Jail on a Bell County driving while intoxicated arrest warrant, Roberts said.
