The Queensland president of an international bikie gang has been charged after a police raid uncovered a cache of drugs, stolen property and a shotgun at a Brisbane home. The 34-year-old man, president of the La Familia bikie gang, was charged with 15 drug and property offences following the search in Kelvin Grove on Thursday afternoon.

Detective Inspector Bruno Asnicar said police had been monitoring La Familia's burgeoning presence in the state and the arrest prevented the international gang gaining a foothold. The Kelvin Grove house that was raided had students living on the top floor and the accused along with another woman on the bottom floor.

Detectives had targeted the group specifically and neighbours were shocked by news that an accused OMCG leader lived so close.
Inspector Asnicar had recently returned from an international conference where La Familia was one of the gangs raised, but said all OMCG groups were similar in terms of structure and values.
"The main significant difference in all of them is simply the colours that they wear and the club they represent," he said.
"The values between each of the clubs probably don't differ a lot, they're all about criminality, they're all organised and they're all about making money – that's the bottom line."

Inspector Asnicar said the stolen property recovered included war medals and the owner was extremely grateful for their return. The shotgun found was stolen from the Darling Downs and police said weapon theft from rural properties was becoming a trend.
Inspector Asnicar said there was not a resurgence of outlaw motorcycle gangs in the south-east and believed police were winning the war.
"We haven't got them riding up and down the streets in their colours or brawling in the pubs anymore," he said.
A 23-year-old woman was also arrested during the raid in relation to a warrant for failing to appear in court. The club president is scheduled to face Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon.
