Biker gang member had drugs, gun in car

A Texas couple is facing multiple charges following a traffic stop for speeding. According to an arrest report for John Franklin Craft, 55, Walker Road, an officer with the West Monroe Police Department saw a tan Kia sedan traveling at 76 mph in a 60 mph zone near the Downing Pines exit ramp on Interstate 20.

The driver was verified as John Franklin Craft. A computer check alerted the officer that Craft was a documented violent offender and member of the Cossacks biker gang, the affidavit states. Craft told the officer the pair were traveling from Temple, Texas to Virginia to visit a friend.

The officer reported asking Craft for permission to search the vehicle, which was denied.
A Monroe Police Department canine was brought to the scene and provided an alert on the vehicle.

A subsequent search yielded numerous items of drug paraphernalia, including syringes, pipes, containers; marijuana, marijuana wax, meth, a meth pipe and a firearm. All were found in the passenger compartment.

Per the report, a criminal history check showed Craft was a convicted felon. A search of the purse of Zona Craft, 47, also revealed several small bags of suspected methamphetamine, per her arrest report.

John Craft was booked into Ouachita Correctional Center on Monday on charges of two counts possession of a schedule I controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal carrying of weapon in the presence of narcotics, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies and possession of a schedule II controlled dangerous substance. Bond was set at $56,750.

Zona Craft was booked on charges of possession of a schedule II controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of narcotics and possession of a schedule I controlled dangerous substance. Bond was set at $26,000.
