Outlaw motorcycle gang member assaults man in downtown Greeley bar, warrant states

A member of an outlaw motorcycle gang could face multiple criminal charges after police say he beat another man Sunday night in the bathroom of a downtown Greeley bar. Peter Salem Brunk, 49, turned himself in to the Weld County Jail Thursday afternoon and remains there with no bond, according to Sgt. Joe Tymkowych of the Greeley Police Department. Brunk, a known outlaw motorcycle gang member, was wanted on suspicion of felony and misdemeanor assault charges, as well as false imprisonment.

The warrant for his arrest came after William Hanson said he had a run-in with Brunk Sunday night at the Tilted Kilt, 610 9th Ave. in Greeley. Hanson would later tell police he'd been drinking with coworkers at the bar that night. Other members of the group said Brunk approached them, telling them he was a "lieutenant" with the motorcycle gang. He wore a black vest dotted with patches, and had long brown hair, the warrant states. Brunk told the group the bar was "their bar."

Later that night, a woman, Genevieve Brucker, wouldn't leave the group alone. In an effort to get her to go away, Hanson told police, he bought her a drink. It turned out she was part of Brunk's group, and Hanson blamed what happened next on the fact that he bought her the drink. Officers knew Brucker, the warrant states, because she'd been a passenger on a motorcycle with Brunk when they pulled him over in July 2017.

Later Sunday night — about 10 p.m. — Hanson said Brunk and another man followed him into the bathroom. While the second man stood against the door to keep anyone from opening it, Brunk turned to Hanson.
"You got big eyes," Hanson remembered Brunk saying. "Why are you looking at us?"

Brunk then attacked Hanson, according to the warrant, punching him in the head more than a dozen times. Hanson fell to the ground, but Brunk kept the assault up, and kicked him between six and eight times while he was on the ground. Then both men fled the bar.

Police corroborated Hanson's story with security camera footage, the warrant states. They watched as Hanson went to the bathroom, followed by Brunk and the second man. After the two disappeared into the bathroom, multiple people tried to enter the room, but weren't able to open the door. This went on for about four minutes, the warrant states, before Brunk and the second man left the restroom.

Not long after that, Hanson left the room as well, "with obvious facial injuries."
Brunk has three prior felony convictions in Colorado. The warrant also states police believe he may have "taken part in a shooting and stabbing case in 2010" involving two outlaw motorcycle gangs, but notes "no charges were filed in that case."

Police looked for Brunk until Thursday afternoon, when he turned himself in to the jail. A judge will later set his bond.
