A Midway Park Pagan’s East Coast motorcycle club member remains in jail after being accused of possessing of over 200 grams of crystal meth, among other charges.
Michael Lee Phelps, 51, of Hannah Court, was charged Monday by the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office with two counts of trafficking methamphetamine by possession, trafficking methamphetamine by manufacture, trafficking hydrocodone by possession, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver methamphetamine, maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
OSCO Maj. Chris Thomas said the joint investigation is separate from this arrest, but information that led to Phelps’ arrest came through while investigating the other case.
Detectives searched Phelps’ residence and allegedly found 214.6 grams of crystal meth, 8.3 grams of hydrocodone, $4,253 and five firearms, according to the release.
The guns included a high-capacity shotgun, revolvers and various pistols - illegal firearms for a convicted felon to have.
Phelps is a known member of the Pagan’s East Coast motorcycle club, Thomas said.
According to Thomas, the amount of methamphetamine is substantial, and is considered a level two trafficking amount, which is anything over 200 grams. Lesser amounts of drugs, from 12-200 grams, is considered a level one trafficking amount.
He said the amount of cash is not unusual, considering the operations Phelps is accused of running.
“When you seize drugs, that amount of cash is not unusual,” Thomas said.
The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are possible, he added.
Phelps is in custody under a $2 million dollar bond, according to the release, and according to N.C. Courts his next court date is scheduled for July 9.
Phelps has previously been convicted in Kentucky on felony cocaine trafficking charges, according to Thomas.
In addition to the charges against Phelps for this week’s arrest, Phelps is also scheduled to appear in court on the same day, July 9, for charges of felony possession of heroin, felony trafficking heroin, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and felony possession with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver methamphetamine, according to N.C. Courts.
