Chelsea gang member Brandon ‘Big Baby’ Baez admits drug, conspiracy charges after massive gang sweep

A member of the Chelsea-based East Side Money Gang has pleaded guilty to a racketeering and drug conspiracy charges after shooting men believed to be rival gang members.

Brandon ‘Big Baby’ Baez, was one of 53 people arrested during a large scale Eastern Massachusetts gang sweep in June 2016. Prosecutors say those raids led to arrests of members of the 18th Street Gang, East Side Money Gang and Boylston Street Gang, as well as the seizure of more than 70 firearms.

Baez is scheduled for sentencing on May 3. The charges against Baez carry a sentence of no greater than 20 years in prison.

The Office of U.S. Attorney Andrew Lelling said that Baez was captured on intercepted phone calls telling Angel Mejia, a leader of the East Side Money Gang, that he had shot two rival gang members at a Revere gas station.
“Baez told Mejia that he believed he had killed at least one of the intended victims,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Baez then asked Mejia for a larger caliber handgun after learning that neither of the shooting victims had died. Police arrested Baez in Chelsea while carrying the .22 caliber revolver used in the shooting.
