A witness told police a fight broke out between members of two motorcycle clubs before the fatal shooting of an Oak Bluffs man on Bedford Street Friday night, according to court documents, the Herald News reported (link is external).
While en route to the shooting, police were flagged down by several motorcyclists who said someone had been shot in the head, according to the first four pages of a police report on file at District Court.
Officers found Eric Voshelle, 39, of Oak Bluffs, lying on the ground in the parking lot that JC’s Cafe, 1050 Bedford St., shares with the Xtra Mart gas station next door, the report states.
Officers rendered first aid to Voshelle, who had suffered an apparent gunshot wound to the back of his head, according to the report. Voshelle’s condition was declining and his pulse slowing as paramedics arrived at the scene.
Voshelle was rushed to Charlton Memorial Hospital, then transferred to the trauma unit at Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead Saturday, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s office.
Several people in the area of the shooting wore patches indicating their membership in the Sidewinders Motorcycle Club, the reports states, and many of them were uncooperative with police.
