The service said the verbal threats were made to the officers during the man’s arrest on Dec. 11 on an unrelated matter at a home in the 5600 block of 20th Street S.W.
The prospect for the outlaw motorcycle group is accused of making comments to one officer while being transported to the arrest processing unit.
He is also accused of directing threats at another officer in a courtroom during his bail hearing.
Police accuse the man of using the Hells Angels’ reputation for intimidation and violence by telling the police members he’d done considerable research on them and knew their home addresses.
The man was clad in support gear denoting an association with the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club Southland Chapter during both incidents and is a self-admitted prospect with the group, say police.
Robert Herring, 36, was rearrested on the allegations Dec. 19 and is charged with two counts of intimidation of a justice system participant.
He’s to appear in provincial court Jan. 24.
According to Calgary police, Hells Angels prospects don’t have voting rights within the organization but take part in its criminal activities, which might include proving themselves to earn full membership.
Outlaw bikers such as the Hells Angels, say police, engage in criminal activities such as counterfeiting, smuggling, money laundering, drug trafficking, illegal gambling and extortion.
They’re also known for participating in charitable activities to falsely improve their image, say Calgary police.
