When federal police in Italy announced their recent sweep against organized crime in its beautiful capital of Rome, it threw us back in time. The big catch of the day was a leader from a notorious, mysterious and powerful crime gang from the 1970s, 80s and 90s, who was shockingly still controlling much of the city’s drug trade. The Mob Reporter here with a great yarn of a man whose colorful story stretches back to Italy’s chaotic past. Meet Roberto Fittirillo, known as “Robertino.” Now meet him way back when. While Robertino isn’t a household name in Italy, the criminal organization he was a part of certainly is: La Banda della Magliana.
