Over the last 50 years, two criminals have been dominating their global drug trade: the Medellin cartel and the Sianloa cartel. The two commanding figures are Medellin's Pablo Escobar and Sianloa's El Chapo. The former ran the largest cocaine operation in Latin America to the United States while the latter ran marijuana, cocaine, and heroin operations from Mexico to market them in the United States and Europe.
